How to Boost the Speed of Your Internet Connection

Everyone needs a fast internet connection these days. After all, both people and businesses heavily depend on the internet to perform their respective tasks. And so, they seek the best deals. But sometimes, subscribing to a good plan does not solve the problem. You may still face connection issues. The speed of your internet might lag, disrupting your viewing experience when streaming your favorite content on platforms like Netflix. And guess what? It might not always be your provider’s fault! You can always try calling Spectrum 1800 number if you are subscribed to their service and tell them about the issue. But what if your provider says that all is good at their end?

Top 5 Ways to Increase the Speed of Your Internet Connection

Before reaching out to your ISP, it is better that you take the matter into your own hands and try to fix the connection yourself. This is because, at times, you can make minor adjustments that can increase your internet connection speed. Let’s now have a look at some of those ways:

1. Reset the Router

Not many people know this, but resetting the router can give you a lot of advantages. For instance, it can eliminate all the hacking attempts. This can also reset the limited memory of the router, which will speed things up. Moreover, doing this can allow your router to apply some important updates that it may have been waiting on.

You will have to reboot your router properly. But remember, rebooting doesn’t mean doing a factory reset. If you do that, then all the settings will be deleted. And you will have to start from scratch. Avoid pushing any reset button on your router and simply unplug it from the power source. This will shut the device down completely. You can then wait for a minute or two before plugging the router again. This will successfully reboot the device.

2. Manage the Wi-Fi Channels

Most routers that are being manufactured today are dual-band. This means that they can offer connection over both 5Ghz and 2.5GHz frequencies. Some are also tri-band, which means another 5GHz band to expand the range of connection. These channels exist, so they may lower the demand of other channels. And this helps in speeding up your internet connection.

5GHz band works best in short range. It is faster and ideal for those devices that are near the router. The 2.5 GHz is for long-range. This band is slow. And it is good for those devices that are placed in different rooms.

There are some routers that are equipped with the automatic allocation feature. This means that the devices are assigned their respective channels automatically. But the thing is that most routers don’t have this feature. So, what to do? Well, simple; just go to the router settings and then make sure that the network is set up for all the bands. You can then connect the devices to those bands individually. It might take you some time. However, this can improve the internet speed considerably.

3. Use Ethernet

If you really want to see how fast your internet is, then try using an ethernet connection. This is because a wired connection is much faster and stable as compared to the wireless one. So, if your device is placed close enough to the router, then insert one end of the ethernet wire to your router’s port and the other end of it to your device. You will now notice a significant change in the speed of your internet connection.

4. Flush Your DNS

A Domain Name System or DNS stores all the website addresses that you visit so that it may improve your future visits to the same site. However, keep in mind that DNS records rely on you and the website to remain on their respective servers. If servers are changed, then the DNS will definitely hurt the connection speed. This is because it will not recognize the new server. Hence, it might be a good idea to flush your DNS.

It’s pretty simple to do this process. If you are on Windows 10, then simply open the Command prompt. Make sure that you are running it as an administrator. Once it is open, type “ipconfig/flushdns” and then press the Enter button. After the process is done, Windows will let you know that the DNS has been cleared.

Conclusion

And there you have it! You can follow the aforementioned ways to increase the speed of your internet connection. But if they don’t work, then you can try some other tips as well, like opting for a faster browser, upgrading the bandwidth of your Wi-Fi, and using a VPN. If the issue still persists, then contact your internet service provider and let them know about the problem. They will surely be able to guide you.
